I am Glenda, Diane's sister.Diane will not be able to come to the Reunion. She is handicapped and does not get out and around much anymore. After 24 years, I got my sister back into my life, her husband died, and it has been wonderful having her back. Please, if you remember Diane, please send her a message to my email, I will make sure she gets it. Diane was kept away from all people and all the things that makes our life easier. She does not know how to use a computer. But..she's doing great, she's with me in Montana. If you wish to call, her number is 406-212-3461. Please do not leave message because she cannot remember how to retrieve. I hope you all have a GREAT reunion!

Dear Seventy-First Classmates,
I love looking at the photos from past reunions which conjure up many wonderful memories of high school times. Thank you, Paula, and all those  on the committee who have worked to keep us connected thru the years. The mega-reunion was fantastic and I was so happy to come back home to Fayetteville and be with friends from my teen years. Count me in for the 45th in May. See you then!

Hi,
I am Paula  Markwell Griffith and I just was stopping by to see if I could find any of my friends from 71st High  School that I went to school with.
I did not get to attend your awesome school long enough to graduate with you.  My dad was in the army and we were stationed at Fort Bragg.  We lived on Birch Road.  We were only there for one year. Back in 1968.
Then my mom and I moved to Ohio, because we had family there while my dad went to Viet-Nam.
We were there for a year.  When my dad returned from Viet-Nam we were to be stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky.  My friends that I graduated with here were the same friends that I went to school with from  5th-9th grade.
I look at my year book from 71st High School now and then and remember all the fun that I had in 10th grade.  The awesome friends like Donna Bell, Cheryl Little, June Dobson to name a few. The teachers were great to.
Well even though we were only there for one year it was a year that I won't ever forget.
I was so sorry to read about the ones who passed away.  Their families wil  be in my prayers as well as all of you.
My facebook name is Paula Markwell Griffith.  Hope to hear from you all sometime.
                                                                                    Yours truly,
                                                                                      Paula

I am looking forward towards this reunion. This will be the 1st one I have attended. I am chuckling thinking how many of these local folks would I have seen in a mall or a store and think "Don\'t I know that person". The reunion will be a great place to reconnect. While at 71st I was certainly not well known or one of the "cool kids" and thanks to not paying attention in Mr Salter\'s english class, I had the opportunity to experience summer school, but I do look back on those days with fond memories.

It\'s been a while since I\'ve heard from anyone except Anna.  I have a new email address.  I was catching up on the last reunion and see there\'s another scheduled for June.  As the result of another layoff (the third for me since 2002 as result of merger/buyout of my employers) I most likely won\'t attend the June 2011 reunion. Suggestion  I recognized a few folks but mostly what went through my mind was "Who is that?"
I\'d love to hear from any/all as I continue the job search...

As all of us close to the situation know, George didn\'t live to fulfill his dream of getting the band back together for the next reunion.
His comments below exemplify his passion for his school, his music, and his bandmates.
Personally, it was an honor to share the grassy stage with him at the last reunion. I had never met him before that night, around 3 minutes before the show was to start. As everyone who witnessed it will agree, it was a magical night. I\'m still humbled to have been a part of it.
Paula is helping to arrange a reunion of \'The Boys In The Band\' as a Tribute to George and as a Benefit for Terri Sandrock, his beautiful mate.
Details will be posted as they emerge. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
Peace be with you George Miller (1951-2010)

I believe that Fayetteville has a group of Musicians that would see to it that any social functions with the music theme of 60,70 and 80's will be filled...I am all for it and I wouldn't want to see the Talent that surrounded me go to waste...The Reunion last Month was something akin to a phenomena...

In high school, I was shy and did not know very many of you and consequently, I was somewhat uneasy about attending this reunion.  I am very please to say that my fears were unjustified and that I made many "new" friends from the class of 69! It was wonderful to see Glenda and Pat... seeing these girls made my day...they haven't changed in all these years!
Thanks to all the folks who worked so hard to put our reunion together.  Excellent job!  I am looking forward to our next reunion.

WELL GANG....

IT JUST DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN IT DID THIS PAST WEEKEND.  WE'LL HAVE TO REALLY SCRATCH OUR HEADS AND TAKE LOTS OF SUGGESTIONS FOR THE "NEXT BIG THANG".

I VOTE FOR BRINGING BACK MY FIRST GRADE BOYFRIEND DAVID MOORE AND HIS BANDMATES JOHNNY BETZ, GEORGE MILLER, EDDIE TRUMAN, BRAD MUFFET AND RICK LEWIS FOR MORE OF THEIR GREAT SOUNDS (AND THE DANCING GIRLS.  I CAN'T BELIEVE SOME OF THE TEACHERS OUTLASTED SOME OF OUR CLASSMATES.  WE NEVER GOT TO SHED OUR CLOTHES!!  THAT'S PROBABLY A GOOD THING FOR SOME OF US....

THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT THAT PROVIDED OUR GOOD TIME AND THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO WORKED SO HARD.  WE HAD A BLAST AND WE REALLY DID "SWEAT" TO THE OLDIES.

I SURE DID MISS SPANKY AT OUR REUNION BUT WE CELEBRATED FOR HIM, DIDN'T WE.

LOVE YA...MEAN IT!!  REALLY.

A huge "THANK YOU" to the Reunion Planning Committee and especially to Paula for being our pointguard!   It was such fun to see many of you on Friday evening.  YES, Spanky's positive courageous spirit was certainly with us!  My heartfelt condolences to Larry, the Stone Family and friends.

I want to again express much gratitude for the honor you gave to my work for children and families in Cumberland and in NC.  I was totally surprised and it meant more than words to know that my classmates moved mountains to make the Old North State Award happen.  I am indeed very blessed to have work that is both challenging and rewarding.  I am also very fortunate to be a member of the awesome 71st Class of 69!  Good health and much happiness to all!  See you at our next wonderful get-together!   "Goldie"

Hello -- I recognize a few names here. I left Fayetteville after 8th Grade at 71st (Mr. Baucom) and 2.5 years at Mary McArthur, and moved to Amarillo (and as quickly as possible to Austin, where I've lived since.  I recognize some of the names here -- the Stone bros (did they have a Great Dane?), David Clyde from Baucom's class and Mary Mc (your mom was an early elementary teacher if I remember rightly, Jean Pittman (also Mary McA, and maybe a neighbor an early Beatles fan if I remember right). and Wayne Holdren (also from McA).
Being there  would mean changing plans, but who knows? Pig Pickin; must be comething special!
Best,
Jerry Young

Since I was only at 71st for my senior year I don't know if any of you would remember me, but the reunion sounds like alot of fun. Is there anyone who has a list of classmates phone numbers or e-mail addresses that have attended other class of 69 reunions?

Hey Guys greetings from the Big Easy, I have missed the last few reunions for reasons I can no longer remember, But Barb and I are going to try and make the trek back north for the reunion this year. We have some great food down here in New Orleans, but a North Carolina pig picken' sure has my taste buds working overtime!

I just can't believe it will be our 40th reunion. I still feel like it was last year! I ran into Connie Nance the other day and when my husband Joe donates blood he runs in to Susan Elkins. We both like the idea of an elegant evening on dinner and dancing.  Just how many times do we get to do that anymore?? We don't eat pork so that might be coloring my choice but you guys have already done the pig picking thing. I have to agree with the classmate that said how hot and humid fayetteville will be at that time of the year. Lets try something different....isn't that what we set out to do for our generation?/

I enjoyed visiting your website and looking at the photos and reading the comments also!  I would love to attend your pig pickin and see some old friends but I will be in Thailand during the event.  Hopefully, sometime in the near future I can visit Fayetteville and see some of you.  I do need to come there to visit my younger brother Danny who still lives in our old family home on Martindale Drive.  I know I won't recognize the town (or most of you) but I do look forward to visiting.  Enjoy the reunion!  PJ

Hey Folks,

Thanks for taking the time to organize  all of this.  I have enjoyed reading
about how you all are doing and saddened to know that many of us have not been
able to hang around to enjoy our golden years.  As with past reunions (except
for the two I was able to attend), I have prior commitments that will keep me
away, so have not entered a preference for the reunion venue.  Gold luck with
the planning and hope you have a wonderful time in June.  I will be in Baltimore
in the middle of my yearly baseball tour.  Would love to have any of you visit
me at the ocean.  WOZ's free Bed and Breakfast has become legendary in just
three years.  The guest room is always ready.  I now live in Beaufort and teach
on Harkers Island--160 kids in 9 grades (K through 8).  It's a tiny old-fashion
school.  When my kids were out of the house, they made me promise to go out on
my own adventure, so I headed for the ocean.  Much slower than Chapel Hill had
become.  I love it here, but I could use some
help in keeping my wine pantry under control.  Too many bottles, not enough
time.  Let me know if you can help.  Go Falcons!

Peace,
WOZ

Hi fellow classmates,
I've received the info for our next reunion...good work!  I think our goal should be to create an event that would allow the highest attendance.  With that in mind, probably the less expensive route is the way to go.  Lots will be flying in and needing hotels so this will be an expensive trip for some.   Personally, I love your premium event idea but I don't think that would be as well attended as a pig-roast. I would enjoy either. Besides, we can't get good "pig" up here!!!
Thanks for all your efforts...

needs to have as many classmates attend as possible we have lost many already i would like to meet and see as many as possible before  i cannot see anymore  . . . thanks for your efforts

Paula Peele-Fonke sent me this great  reunion photo album! What an enduring and great effort some of our classmates have made to keep us all in touch! I enjoyed seeing my old friends in the photos and regret that I was unable to attend. We are now considering the Boone, N.C. area for our "terminal" home, having lived in Taos, NM one year after retiring in Texas. We are looking for a cooler climate and lots of acreage. We know that  71st/ASU grads are in those woods so we might knock on your doors next trip out! Again, thanks for the reunion from cyberspace.
